The Tennis Center features four indoor, hard courts for year-round play. They were just resurfaced with the new US Open colors. Completely heated and insulated, the Tennis Center offers players a comfortable environment complete with indirect lighting. Learn or improve your abilities with private lessons from our staff of USPTR Certified Tennis Professionals. Adult and Junior tennis programs are also available. The Tennis Shop offers complete repair services and first class amenities include a snack bar and locker room facilities.

We here at Monument Hill Country Club are very proud of our professional tennis staff. Along with their years of experience you will find that their enthusiasm for the game is contagious. Every level of player will find that we have the staff to take your game to the next level or just make the game more enjoyable.
Robert Balboa - Director of Tennis
Our director brings 34 years of experience to our program. In his ow words, “I still love the game as much as I did the first year I played.”
As a player, Robert is still active and competes in tournaments around the country. He has been to 5 National Championships. Four times at the 5.0 level (National Champion in 1991) and most recently at the 4.5 level this past October.
As a coach, Robert has taken 5 USTA teams to the National Championships. He was the traveling coach for the #1 ranked girl in the US from 2001 to 2006. Currently, one of his biggest joys is teaching the Intro to Tennis class at Monument Hill CC which introduces adults to the game of tennis for the first time. “I enjoy teaching new players the game of tennis and seeing them get hooked on a game they will probably play for a lifetime.” Send questions and requests to: robert@monumenthillcc.com.
Veda Corkey – USPTR Tennis Pro
Veda has been at Monument Hill CC for 10 years and is a USPTR certified Pro.
As a player, Veda has played in the USTA leagues for 12 years. She was on the 4.5 team that advanced to the National Championship in 2009. She reached a high ranking of #2 in the state for women’s singles. She still competes in tournaments around the state. After the Championships in 2009, Veda was moved to the highest level of organized play in USTA which is 5.0.
As a coach, Veda enjoys teaching juniors ages 4 to 18. She runs the Junior tennis program along with Paul. She especially enjoys teaching the adult Intro to Tennis class and sharing her love of the game with them. She is a certified instructor for Cardio Tennis and a certified Quick Start instructor. She says, “my greatest reward is helping players meet their goal, whether it is making a varsity team in high school, winning a local tournament or improving their current ranking.”
Paul Kardel – Tennis Pro
Paul has been at Monument Hill CC for 14 years and brings 35 years of experience to our program.
As a coach, Paul brings a vast array of experience to our club. He is currently the coach for the boys and girls team at Lewis Palmer High School and has been there for 12 years. He was named coach of the year in 2003 by “The Gazette.” He was the women’s coach for the University of Colorado in 2005. He is the founder of Rush N` Crush tennis training program which won the 18 division in the 2002 Intermountain Championships. He and Veda run our Junior tennis program at the club. Paul believes that, “in order to defeat one’s opponent, one must first defeat the self.”

Intro to Tennis
This class is for adults who are new to tennis or returning to the game. Our next session will begin March 3rd, 2012 on Saturday mornings 10:00 - 11:00 am. Class includes 8 hrs. of instruction, with practice time during the week. Graduates of the class can participate in our club leagues and receive a special opportunity for membership. $95 pp. Call the front desk (719) 884-7238 to sign up. Friday Night Mixed Doubles
If you have not made it to one of our tennis socials, you are missing out on a great time. This is a great way to meet some of your fellow tennis enthusiasts. Every two weeks, we start at 6:30 pm on Fridays and play until you’ve had enough tennis, food and fun. Please check the event calendar for specific dates.
